DHTech turned eight this year! Time for a personal reflection of the last eight years, what we have accomplished, and where we want to go. Thank you to everyone who has helped shape DHTech over the years, has participated in events, or simply just read along!

<p>Hugo-Bibliography is a new Hugo plug-in designed to make adding citations into Hugo projects much easier. It can be added as a theme to a Hugo website to generate bibliography pages using the provided shortcodes. At this point, bibliography data needs to be available in CSL-JSON format (that for example can be exported from Zotero). In addition, these shortcodes have a few extra features to allow for filtering out entries from the resulting bibliography.</p>

How about seeing what the Declaration of Independence would look like if you were to open it up on your desk at work or on a train during your commute? Or perhaps you are interested in learning what others thought about that gripping Japanese detective novel you just read? Two new apps presented at DH2024: Reinvention & Responsibility can help you to do just that: Jisedai Reader and Booksnake.

<p>At the DH2023 conference in Graz, Austria, a group of digital humanities academics and professionals gathered for a <a href="https://dh-tech-github-io-pr-210.onrender.com/dh2023-workshop/">workshop titled “How can you trust your code?” organized by DHTech</a>. The goal of the workshop was to identify and discuss issues related to the development, use, and reuse of research software in digital humanities and across humanities disciplines more broadly. We&rsquo;ll be posting content compiled from the notes and resources gathered during the many productive conversations during that one-day workshop as a series of related blog posts over the next few months, and once they are all published, we&rsquo;ll combine the content and publish it as a whitepaper authored by all workshop participants.</p>

DHTech will hold a mini-conference at DH2024 themed “**DH Inside Out**”. Typical DH conference presentations are focussed on the research with a slight nod to the technical details; we want to flip that format and dive more deeply into the technical aspects of the work, while still keeping it in context of the research and domain specifics.

In the digital realm, ensuring the longevity of projects is crucial. The University of Victoria's "Endings Project" presents guidelines for digital project sustainability. These principles divide projects into five areas: Data, Documentation, Processing, Products, and Release Management, each with its own set of standards to assure sustainability.

The Code Review Working Group of DHTech is starting the alpha phase of implementing a code review process for the digital humanities. For the initial round of reviews, we are looking for people willing to submit code for review and people willing to review someone else’s code.

I wanted to migrate the old website on the server to a Docker image for Zope so I could use it in a docker-compose setup together with a standard PostgreSQL container. How hard could that be?

I love my job. It is very interesting and challenging, I get to learn new things all the time, and some semesters I teach, which I enjoy a lot. Some days, however, are like 2020, you just want them to end.
